What was great: the crime plot. The characters and the story line, the way this all unfolded. I was missing the personal development with Dave - he felt a bit detached. Still, a very good crime novel.
I just have the same little problem that m/m crime/mystery series that strive to be realistic: There are always a lot of gay people. And I am so happy it is a series! I like the main character, Dave Brandstetter. I love the writing, the crime/mystery plot, the characters and the pacing. It was an allaround great read.
The Dave Brandstetter mysteries read like super authentic period pieces. That's of course because they are in fact aged-contemporary stories, giving a beautifully preserved rendition of the era, the setting and the social attitudes towards homosexuals.
