Judith Martin's Books
Some people read etiquette for advise. I probably did at first, or maybe just because I'd read anything. Now I read etiquette for the humor and the human insight. And for the humor, Miss Manners is the top.
I love the idea of these little books: a scaled down mini course in one specific topic. Miss Manners is always an amusing writer.
I have a deep and abiding love for etiquette books, and Miss Manners is among the finest writers ever in the genre. She's just such a dry wit.
I delight in etiquette columns, because clear guidelines are always helpful and because a skilled writer can make a simple answer into art. Martin makes me laugh, and provides me with useful information. I read her books as novels.
