BioJulie Halpert is the co-author of Making Up With Mom: Why Mothers and Daughters Disagree About Kids, Careers, and Casseroles (and What do Do About It). To contact her or check out coverage on the book, go to www.makingupwithmom.comJulie is a freelance journalist with more than two decades of experience writing about issues that affect her personally -- like the challenge of balancing a busy career with parenting. She has been a frequent speaker on the topic at many events. She has written for national publications, including The New York Times, Newsweek, The Washington Post, MORE and Parents and the websites iVillage, CNNMoney and grandparents.com. Her subjects have ranged from the popularity of family camps to breast cancer treatment advances, to the craze over Pokemon cards and the environmental impacts of the auto industry, an issue she has covered extensively lately as a regular contributor to Newsweek.com. She has reported on the air for many public radio programs, including The Environment Report, Marketplace and Living on Earth and teaches an environmental journalism class at The University of Michigan. She enjoys traveling and dining out at fun restaurants with her husband and three children as restaurant critic for AnnArbor.com and performing in local community theater productions.
