A friend at university had a comic book with one of the world's greatest titles: "Beautiful stories for ugly children." Here we have another one, a Newberry Winner no less. Two forebodings that dogged me throughout were 1) It read like research that wasn't fully understood. 2) The author has a very E...

One of my treasured finds. This was one of the first books I picked out from my grade school library, and I still love it.

I really liked this story though it was rather childish. I liked Miyax's (Julie's) interaction with the wolves and how she learned their behaviors and how to fit into the pack. I will definitely be reading the other books in the series to find out what Julie and her wolves do next.

A young girl is forced to befriend a pack of Arctic wolves as she attempts to escape from an intolerable marriage. The details of life with the wolves was nothing short of amazing; who would believe before reading this story that a girl could live among wolves and who would, after reading it, not be...
