Wowzas! I can't remember a book that started out so delightful and deteriorated into such a mess of Imperialist racism and misogeny. The trouble starts when humans start appearing in the stories. Before that, the stylistic elements and amusing tales are wonderful.

Any story coming from the early 1900's is bound to be, at the very least, problematic. As a reader of classic stuff, I just knew that going in. The simple and childish naivety of these stories is truly endearing. I love how Kipling uses his fanciful imagination to explain the origin of the well-known animals, and I think every child will be loving it as well.
