Wowzas! I can't remember a book that started out so delightful and deteriorated into such a mess of Imperialist racism and misogeny. The trouble starts when humans start appearing in the stories. Before that, the stylistic elements and amusing tales are wonderful.

Kipling's use of the English language makes you want to read each of these stories out loud, over and over again. I can't wait to get my hands on a printed version so that I can really appreciate the drawings and their ridiculously long captions!

And as far as the f------ f------, racism and sexism, I consider the source, the time and place. If Kipling were still alive I absolutely would abhor and hold him responsible for his at...
