K.R. Sands has taught university literature and writing courses on and off for three decades (in Arizona, Scotland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania). She has also worked as a government regulation writer, an animal laboratory technician, and a zoo keeper. Her previous publications include two history books (under "Kathleen R. Sands") on belief in demon possession in Elizabethan England. Boy of Bone, her first book of fiction, received an Honorable Mention at the 2012 New York Festival of the Book.
