September 15When a tragic accident takes the life of 17-year-old Raven Roth's foster mom--and Raven's memory--she moves to New Orleans to recover and finish her senior year of high school.Starting over isn't easy. Raven remembers everyday stuff like how to solve math equations and make pasta, but sh...

I've talked here before about my love of The New Teen Titans, the 1980-96 series created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. They were my real first (and probably deepest) comic love. It informed and shaped my tastes in ways I probably can't realize and definitely can't articulate. It's practically sa...

There were no surprises in Gatlin County. We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere. At least, that's what I thought.Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong. There was a curse. There was a girl. And in the end, there was a grave.Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town...

I saw the movie years ago and when I learned it was based on a book, I immediately ordered the series... And then it sat on my shelf for years. [I really need to stop buying books and read the ones I own. Anyway, I pulled this out for Halloween Bingo as my "Southern Gothic" square. And man you d...

I have been a fan of Kami Garcia ever since I read her Beautiful Creatures series and I've been meaning to pick up one of her contemporary books for a while now. I am very, very happy that I ended up loving this book. A lot.Broken Beautiful Hearts is the story of Peyton and her journey of healing an...

I loved this, and I don't generally read YA contemporary OR give out 5 star reviews easily... I've read all Garcia's other books, but didn't connect with any of them as much as I did with this story. It has an almost vintage feel to it, for me at least, despite being her (only) contemporary YA fic -...

Super fast read, appropriately scary without being unreadably terrifying. Love that she went for a team approach. Paranormal stuff convincingly covered. Makes sense that she and Kelley Armstrong - a long with a who's who of YA writing superstars - review each other's stuff. Lots in common. Enjoyable...

Challenging take on some of the darker characters of the franchise, and kudos to the authors for not reaching too much for redemption... but not a super inspiring read, either. Pretty quick, reasonably high tension, but I just didn't care that much about the characters, unfortunately.

Rags & Bones is billed as a book of "New Twists on Timeless Tales", which, silly me, I thought would mean a book of fairytale retellings. (I love fairytale retellings, especially because I'm on a Once Upon A Time kick at the moment.) Although there are a couple of fairytales covered - "Sleeping Beau...
