Kathleen Sindell, Ph.D. writes and teaches to improve financial literacy. She is the author of numerous academic, professional, and popular, finance books, articles, and publishes a weekly social security blog. Sindell wrote the bestselling reference books, Social Security: Maximize Your Benefits, 1st Edition “(listed for three-months on Amazon.com’s 100 Bestselling Retirement Books), "Investing Online for Dummies, Eds. 1-5" (listed for two consecutive years on the Wall Street Journal's Bestselling Business Book List), “Managing Your Money Online for Dummies”, “The Unofficial Guide to Buying a Home Online”, and many other business and finance reference books. Dr. Sindell is a recognized financial planning authority who is regularly tapped as a financial expert on ABC World News, The Nightly Business Report, Investment News, and at popular online and print outlets. She is a member of Journal of Financial Planning, Editorial Advisory Board (2015 and 2016) and helps provide editorial content direction for professional financial planners. For more than 20 years, Dr. Sindell, has held academic positions in business and finance at the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and the Johns Hopkins University. At UMUC She is a full professor (adjunct) and has successfully worked for the creation and approval of a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) program, CFP Advisory Board, and UMUC Financial Planning Association (FPA) Student Chapter. She is the course chair of four of the six CFP courses and teaches the CFP Board approved courses of Financial Wealth Building, Health and Life Insurance, Investing, Retirement and Estate Planning, and the Financial Plan Development Capstone course. For 16 years, Sindell was a practitioner faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business, where she created graduate courses and taught the internet and e-commerce, corporate finance, individual investment management and personal wealth management. Prior to that she managed the Financial Management and Real Estate programs and faculty at the University of Maryland University College Graduate School.Dr. Sindell contributes to the community by serving as an FPA National Capital Area Board Member and Pro-Bono Co-Chair for over six years. In that position she has been Co-Chair of Metro Washington Financial Planning Day (2011, 2014, 2015, 216).
