A warm, enjoyable retelling of the Japanese folktale about how the beckoning cat became a symbol of luck and prosperity. Lovely illustrations.

Perhaps a tad heavy-handed with the message, but the simple splotches of paint are effective, and the message is refreshing. Most stories about bullies are resolved by direct confrontation, whereas this one stresses the importance of by-standers getting involved. Then again, that may not be a lesson...
