My interest is in uncovering more material relating to Emma Smith and Mary Gosling (aka: Emma Austen Leigh and Lady Smith). Diaries and letters have shown up in university archives, public record offices, and private collections. The Smith&Gosling biographical trilogy previews in 2013 with an introductory volume entitled, TWO TEENS IN THE TIME OF AUSTEN: RANDOM JOTTINGS, 2008-2013, available only on Kindle. This fascinating family lived during extraordinary times! You'll agree with me after reading more of my blog's information. Mary (1800-1842) married Emma's eldest brother, Sir Charles Joshua Smith; Emma (1801-1876) married Jane Austen's nephew (and first biographer), James Edward Austen Leigh. They are the reason for my writing about Jane Austen & her works. An ongoing project, anyone with letters, diaries, or images is encouraged to contact me. I've been writing tidbits of this story for my "Two Teens in the Time of Austen" blog, as well journals and magazines such as PERSUASIONS, THE JANE AUSTEN JOURNAL; JANE AUSTEN'S REGENCY WORLD magazine; LOCAL PAST; and THE CHRONICLE.
