Ken was born in a New York farmhouse during a less sophisticated era when boys wore knickers and their elders toted open-sighted, lever-action rifles hunting deer that were scarcer than they are now. Throughout all this time, Ken has been handloading his ammunition, working with most of the better-known factory and wildcat cartridge, learning as he went along. Paralleling his hobby and sport has been an interest in writing technical articles, from as far back as his school days. His first article was published in 1935.In 1954, he put it all together and started writing for the Gun Digest, later for Shooting Times as reloading columnist, and ever since Handloader and Rifle magazines were founded, he had been a regular contributor until his retirement in 2002. Other publications have included The Handloader's Digest, Guns Illustrated and The American Rifleman. He coauthored a book, The Breech-Loading Single-Shot Match Rifle, with Major Ned Roberts.'Ned Roberts and Colonel Townsend Whelen, whom I knew personally, were my mentors,' says Ken, 'and I owe much to their inspiration. I like to think they would have approved of this current effort as consistent with their oft-demonstrated willingness to share findings with other shooters.'
