Kevin McCloskey, Professor of Illustration, Kutztown University of PA. Born: Rahway, NJ. As a young man Kevin took a trip around the world. He sold his drawings on the streets of San Francisco. He went to college at The School of Visual Arts, NYC. He studied with great illustrators including Marshall Arisman, Robert Weaver, and Uri Shulevitz. His artwork has appeared in many newspapers including The Village Voice and The New York Times. His 1991 children's picture book, Mrs. Fitz's Flamingos, was a selection of the Children's Book of the Month Club. He also wrote and illustrated a guidebook to his old hometown, Walking Around Hoboken. We Dig Worms! is his new book. His wife, Patt, a librarian, asked for a funny worm book to read to children. He painted worms on recycled grocery bags. Françoise Mouly, the publisher of Toon Books, art directed and edited We Dig Worms! into a real book. When he visits schools to share We Dig Worms!, he brings a bucket of worms.
