This book is pretty much non-stop adventure. He's sent to live with his uncle who tries to cause him to have a fatal accident to keep him from his inheritance. When that doesn't work he tricks him on ship to be sold in slavery. His ship wrecks. He's marooned. He's continuously at the wrong plac...

Author: Robert Louis StevensonNarrator: Keiron Elliott ISBN: 9781490655758 Why did I read it? Scotland has long held my interest, and I thought that since I had not read many of its authors, I ought to dive in, and, having listened to the BBC Radio Scotland, Scotland Outdoors podcast where they...

I remember that when I was a small child, my father would read to us at night, and one of the books he read was Kidnapped. At the time, I had the impression that it was a wonderful tale. Then, a few years later, probably 5th or 6th grade, I tried reading Kidnapped on my own, and didn't much like it....

There is a story to my love for this book. And this is not really a review. This story came up talking to a friend, and she dared me to submit it to "The Books They Gave Me", which, if you love books, you may in fact love. So whatever. Go look at the shiny Tumblr blog :) I am old enough to have...

Kidnapped is a charming adventure novel. It is set in Scotland a few years after the rebellion of Bonnie Prince Charlie. The book neatly divides into two parts. The first part concerns the orphaned David Balfour coming to collect his inheritance from his treacherous uncle Ebeneezer and his subseq...

I can understand why readers might be put off by 'Catriona' ('David Balfour' if you're a stickler), and leave it unfinished, but it really should be given a chance. I enjoyed it a lot more than 'Kidnapped' in fact. David proves himself to be a grown man and worthy of the rewards of his inheritance i...

This was not the second piratical, high seas adventure I'd been expecting after 'Treasure Island', but it was a good yarn.'Kidnapped' is actually only half of the novel Stevenson meant to write, the other half being 'Catriona' (or 'David Balfour' depending on the edition you have). It concerns a you...

I foolishly didn't pay attention to what edition I was choosing when i requested Kidnapped from the library. So, I ended up with the "Saddleback Illustrated Classic" whick turns out to be basically a comic book. There was probably less content here than in the Cliff notes. A waste of time.

SO glad I waited to read Kidnapped until now. If I'd read this in high school like I was supposed to I would have missed so much...hell, I wouldn't have understood even half of what was said! But now that I'm more familiar with UK history, Scottish accents and old timey slang, I can actually sit bac...
