I am a professor at Michigan State University, where I teach courses on higher education foundations and college students. Particular interests include mixed race students and LGBTQ issues in higher ed. My passion for the study of higher education emerged from my undergraduate experience at Mount Holyoke College and 10 years working as a dean in the student life office at Brown University. Recently, I've been working on an international study of women's colleges and universities, co-leading the National Study of LGBTQ Student Success (www.lgbtqsuccess.net) and co-authoring the 3rd edition of the student development theory book (out now!).
