Although it wasn't all that exciting or well-written, the premise of this novella was unique and intriguing and could have been much better if there were a theme or a message, instead of a series of random cautionary-tale threads.

It went on and on and then was just over. I was expecting magic (the book references the Mayans, after all) and there was none. A disappointment.
