I didn't much care for the writing style. It seemed to be trying too hard. Lady Anne was entertaining, but she also seemed to be trying a bit too hard in places. Lord Darkefell was meh. And the book just ended, practically in the middle of a sentence, with no real resolution of the romance arc.
Don't pick this book up thinking it's a romance. It's mainly a mystery with romantic elements. At the time I bought it, I didn't know/realize it was the first book in a series. There might be a lot more romance in book 2. I liked the interplay between the MCs. It's similar to the Zebra gothics ...
