I'm going to need to re-read this book, because I can't put my finger on what precisely made it so moving, in addition to often being hilarious. Why did I find the crucifixion more poignant in this irreverent text than I've ever found it in Matthew, Mark, Luke or John?

I’ll admit the closest I’ve come to reading the Bible was my Precious Moments children’s bible stories book when I was six. I know enough about it – I’ve read about it and I’ve watched Bible history shows because I’m strangely addicted to them, and I’ve done research on the various themes and archet...

A little dry at parts, but it was a hilarious depiction of Jesus between his birth and death. I enjoyed it.

There is nothing written about Jesus' childhood unless you count the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which is almost as strange as this novel by Christopher Moore. I'll be honest. More than one person pressured me to read Christopher Moore's Lamb, and the reasons they gave for why I would like it- that it's hilarious, that it gives Christianity a round roasting- were exactly the reasons I wasn't interested. As a former Southern Baptist, I feel like I hardly ne...

In Chris Moore's hilariously irreverent pass at filling in the blanks of Jesus Christ's life, Christ spends his formative years seeking out the Magi who foretold and attended his birth and learns not only Taoism and Buddhism, but also Kung Fu and yoga. Hilarious! [ full review ]

I wanted to like this better than I liked the other Moore I read. I tried because people whose literary tastes I admire told me that this was much better than The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove. But no. There were the odd amusing turns of phrase. The plotting was solid. The premise was good. I'm alw...
