3 starsBeautiful artwork but kind of a scary story. Flora and her siblings are almost tricked by a kelpie and drowned, but the clever, quick thinking girl saves all of their lives. I have known some rank horses in my life, but the evil kelpie makes them all look like kitty-cats.

A merchant stops to help a tiger trapped in a pit and then is startled to find that the tiger wants to eat him! A fun story with nice colorful illustrations. It has a nice examination of what fairness and unfairness, but the message doesn’t take over the story.

A nice little folk tale, not too doctored up. Lari Don consulted versions and variants according to her source statement. A great reversal story. Reminiscent of the rattlesnake parable and the elephant poop parable. Would be worth learning to tell, if from an original rather than this book. There's ...
