Well written, I just wish I had read this when I was younger. At 22 I feel that I was too old to fully appreciate this book, and that my 14 year old self would have gotten a lot more out of this read.
At fourteen, Joan Skraggs is pulled out of school. Her father deems she’s had enough education, and she is needed at home. The woman’s work needs to be done by someone, and since her mother’s death four years prior, there’s no-one else to cook the meals, carry the water and ashes and coal, scrub the...
This charming story is set in 1911. Joan Scraggs is 14 years old when her father pulls her out of school and forces her to work like a mule at home on their Pennsylvania farm. Her teacher gives her a diary which Joan writes in every day and the story is told through her diary entries. After her mis...
A great production of an audiobook. Different voices for each character, really fun music in between each monologue and a cool vibe when the monologue contained more than one character. The book itself didn't do much for me, but I'd easily give the audio a five star rating. Different characters f...

I am wavering between three and four stars. The premise is right up my alley: plucky and clever children encounter intrigue, mystery, and magic in Victorian London. I liked almost all the characters (particularly the children Lizzie Rose, Clara, and Persefall). And the book is full of wonderful desc...
