Laura Elliot was born in Dublin, Ireland. She lives in Malahide, a picturesque coastal town on the north side of Dublin. Her three novels are: The Prodigal Sister, Stolen Child and Deceptions. Travelling is one of her interests and The Prodigal Sister was inspired by a trip she took in a camper van across the vast reaches of New Zealand's beautiful South Island. The inspiration for Stolen Child was closer to home. It concerned the story of a three-month baby girl who was stolen from her pram when Laura was a child. This little girl was not found until four years later, by which time she had grown up with people whom she believed were her parents. Her photograph in the papers, when she was reunited with her natural parents - the bewilderment and grief on her face - remained an abiding memory with Laura and bubbled to the surface many years later when she was contemplating her next novel.Deceptions explores the theme of betrayal and illusion, the consequences of a hit and run accident that destroys two marriages and breaks the lifetime bonds of friendship. AKA June Considine, she had written twelve books for children and young adults. Her short stories have appeared in a number of teenage anthologies, and also been broadcast on radio. She has also worked as a journalist and magazine editor.

Sisters Beth and Sara living in a small Irish village. Not a very nice childhood, especially for Beth, who was constantly chastised and blamed for everything by her "loving" mother. I really liked the start (and the end) of this book, but then it got rather bogged down with just too many characters ...

Undoubtedly the author can write a good tale around a dark subject and this one was very disturbing covering child abuse in depth (but not in graphic detail) and it did make for quite uncomfortable reading. It is more a family saga than a thriller, in my view, covering the lives of two families and t...
