This is the last Anna Hibiscus book which makes me very sad. I wish this series would go on forever. I was nervous when the first story was a light one about Double and Trouble. It felt a little out of place with the series, like maybe it was meant for an earlier book or should have been a picture...
I love how Atinuke tackles big subjects like racism and poverty in a way that feels very accessible, never didactic, always entertaining. Some stories come with a moral and some stories are just fun. This is probably my favorite of the Anna Hibiscus books so far. But they're all so good, it's real...
I love Anna Hibiscus, her family and her adventures. I could easily see each chapter in this book being its own picture book (incidentally that's how Lenore Look wrote Ruby Lu, Brave and True). I can't wait to read/re-read the rest!
It's just about impossible to resist the infectious happiness of Anna Hibiscus. Warm and joyful.
