Laurence Cox co-directs the MA in Community Education, Equality and Social Activism at the National University of Ireland Maynooth and co-edits the open-access social movements journal "Interface" (http://interfacejournal.net). He is mostly interested in the ways ordinary people remake the world and has published widely on topics like the alterglobalisation movement, social movement cultures, working-class community organising, new religious movements and activist sustainability (much of his work is available free via academia.edu, http://eprints.nuim.ie and www.into-ebooks.com).With Alf Nilsen, he has just released "We Make Our Own History", outlining a systematic Marxist approach to social movements. With Brian Bocking and Alicia Turner, he is currently researching the remarkable life of U Dhammaloka, an Irish hobo who became a Buddhist monk and anti-colonial activist in early 20th century Asia (http://dhammalokaproject.wordpress.com). Laurence Cox has been involved in a wide range of social movements in several countries for over quarter of a century, as well as in radical education projects and alternative media. He is a practising Buddhist and occasional meditation teacher. The video on this page is the first part of the launch of "We Make Our Own History"; the full video, with responses by Colin Barker, Subir Sinha and Lesley Wood, is available on https://plutopress.wordpress.com/2014/11/26/we-make-our-own-history-book-launch-transcript-and-video/
