I became an archaeologist because I never wanted to leave kindergarten--what other profession allows you to spend a lot of time outside, play in the dirt, draw pictures, and glue stuff together? Seriously though, I see archaeology as being a set of tools that we can use to learn about recent history--even time periods we think we already know. I hope to leave readers with both a sense that the history they thought was familiar is exotic and intriguing; but, the people I write about are familiar and understandable.
