Carter started life as Laurie White in the small northwestern Ontario town of Dryden. Family moves resulted in a variety of new addresses in southern Ontario. After graduation from the University of Toronto, she entered the corporate world where she worked in human resources until 1991 when she moved to the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. She writes travel stories for magazines, newspapers and the Internet and draws on her travel experiences to craft her Taylor Kerrick mystery novels. Her work as a writer and photographer has been recognized with awards from the Canadian Tourism Commission, Travel Media Association of Canada and Travel Alberta. Grandma Wears Hiking Boots: A personal guide to the Okanagan Valley is her first travel book. She followed up this success by collaborating with her husband, Bruce Kemp, on the coffee table photography book, Gifts of the Okanagan. Carter lives in a cozy house overlooking Okanagan Lake with Bruce and two SPCA rescue cats. She loves hiking, digging in her garden and being a grandma.
