Lawrence Douglas Grouse, MD, PhD, better known as Larry, was Vice President for Programming and Medical Affairs of the Lifetime Television Network and was a founder of the national Lifetime Medical Television (LMT) network that reached half the physicians in the US and millions of consumers. For 11 years he managed its business and production. He helped to develop the first form of direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising of prescription drugs that began airing in 1983. Prior to this, he was Senior Editor and Director of Scientific Affairs at the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). In 1979, he created the JAMA column A Piece of My Mind and as column editor worked with hundreds of physicians and other writers seeking creative expression for their deeply-felt experiences in medicine. Since 1992, Dr. Grouse has been the Executive Director of international health initiatives founded in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (US) and the World Health Organization. He is now working with his former LMT colleagues in creating a new medical video network (Health Care Vlogs) for YouTube and website distribution!
