I started this book last year for the one and only reason that it was directed by George Martin, and I was in love with his style from his now well-known and massively-mediatized series, A Song of Ice and Fire . I loved that series, every second of it, so here I was bouncing up and down when I hear...

I find these Wild Cards novels very enjoyable probably due in part to the great variety of authors and a terrific mix of wonderfully eccentric and original characters that inhabit Jokertown and the Wild Card universe. This one seemed to be one of the better ones of the five I've read so far. The las...

Very good. Definitely the best of the 3 i've read so far. It flows nicely from one chapter to another, which incidentally are hours of the day, since this is set over a 24 hour period.I wasn't sure i was going to continue with the rest of the series after reading the first two books, but this has me...

A lot of people think this is where the series starts to noticeably weaken, but I still liked it a lot. The stories weave around a gang war between the Shadow Fists and the mafia. Some of the characters and situations seemed a bit contrived - a mafia princess working as an assistant DA in NYC, and n...

Another great book in the series. I liked the way it focused on the events of a single day - I'm always a fan of the concurrent storylines. Also, I liked how they weren't afraid to knock off a few extra characters. A very highly recommended addition to the series.

This is an excellent treatment of the pulp scifi genre. I especially like the way it embraces pulp without being self-referential. Breaking the story up between different writers also helps add to the feeling that the world of the Wild Card virus is a dynamic world, with numerous goings-on that can ...

This is an anthology of short stories, set in a shared universe, edited by George RR Martin (but note he does contribute stories as well as editing). The Wild Cards universe begins in 1946, the same as ours up until that point, then an alien virus known as the 'wild card' virus is unleashed over New ...

Jokers Wild deals with some of the fallout from the second book, namely the main villain, the Astronomer. Definitely the weakest of the first three Wild Cards books. 3.5 out of 5.

The Astronomer returns in this book, and there is much bloodshed. Still a good read, but at this point, the series is settling into a few tropes that get repeated over and over.
