Holy shit, this went from mildly amusing to meh to holy fuck he is a raging crazy person. First, the chapter on killing sea turtles while his parents allowed it really bothered me. THEN he goes on to a part about how he wants to remind the world about Jesus. Okay, fair enough. Oh no, he wants to sen...
Funny stuff. Definitely more "classic Sedaris" than [b:Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary|7857195|Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk A Modest Bestiary|David Sedaris|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1279831428s/7857195.jpg|10995406], but not in my top two or three of his books. As always, I prefer to...
This is my first exposure to David Sedaris' writing, and I doubt it'll be my last, but this is also the first time I've ever dinged a rating for content. The writing is incredibly good and hysterically funny. I listened to the audio and Sedaris does his own narration - as he should, because I don...
The audiobook is narrated hilariously by the author. Warning: if you listen to this out in public, walking around or running, you WILL laugh out loud and seem quite crazy. But it's well worth the risk.
Although I’ve loved his other books, this collection of essays just didn’t seem as entertaining. Audiobook via Audible. Read by the author, who as usual provides an excellent performance.
I don't know why it took me so long to read this author's book. I take that back, I read a book he co-wrote about the men his mother dated before she got married but that book was okay. Some parts were "snort" funny but nothing that made me crack up laughing. This book made me crack up laughing - I l...
True story my sister's appendix decided that it really didn't want to be in her body anymore and she was really upset because this coincided with David Sedaris being in our town to promote this book. I really didn't quite get why she was so upset with this, but now that I've read this book I totall...
Definitely not my favorite of his books (Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim are much funnier). The last part with the essays was the best. Usually I think audiobooks are best when performed by a trained voice actor, but Sedaris (lisp and all) adds a humorous authentic...
Funny stuff. Definitely more "classic Sedaris" than Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, but not in my top two or three of his books. As always, I prefer to listen to him read aloud. Among my favorite quotes: “In the beginning, I was put off by the harshness of German. Someone would order ...
