Grizzard was very popular in Atlanta in the 80s, the Dave Barry of Georgia. Reading his books and/or newspaper columns was pretty much unavoidable. His book launch/autographings were huge. I'm sure many people still feel an absence where he used to be. Library copy

I'm from Atlanta and a lot of the places and people are very familiar to me. Maybe the generation gap is what caused the disconnect but I just didn't find this funny, even slightly. It came across as fickle and derogatory.

Lewis Grizzard is normally quite hilarious and is one of my favorite comedic writers (like Don't Bend Over in the Garden Granny, You Know them Taters Got Eyes and Shoot Low Boys, They're Riding Shetland Ponies) but this book was about his father and although funny at times, was overall very sad.
