Lewis R. Gordon is an Afro-Jewish philosopher, social and political activist, critic, and musician (https://www.amazon.com/Now-Explicit-ThreeGenerations/dp/B01IY0J792/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1469648398&sr=8-3&keywords=ThreeGenerations). He has lectured across the globe and is active with a variety of international associations and organizations. He teaches in the Department of Philosophy and the Center for Judaic Studies and Jewish Life at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. He also is the European Union Visiting Chair in Philosophy at Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès, France, Honorary Professor in the Unit for the Humanities at Rhodes University (U.H.U.R.U.), South Africa, Visiting Professor in Philosophy and Government at the University of the West Indies at Mona, Jamaica, and most recently Writer-in-Residence at the Birkbeck School of Law in London, UK. His previous appointments include Professor and the founding chairperson of the Department of Africana Studies at Brown University (1996-2004) and Philosophy and African American Studies at Purdue University (1993-1995). He is a graduate of Yale University (Ph.D., 1993) and Lehman College's Scholars Program (1984). A former high school teacher, he was the founder of The Second Chance Program for In-School Truants at Lehman High School.
