Light in August is the final book in my Faulkner set and one, in some ways, grander in scope than the previous volumes. Unlike As I Lay Dying and The Sound and the Fury this story is not beholden to one family. We follow a daisy chain from character to character in narrative that incorporates al...

4 stars for Will Patton's wonderful narration and for the story itself, but 3 stars for Faulkner's writing style.

I'm sure I have a deep set predilection when it comes to Faulkner's greatness but regardless I loved this novel and found it much more accessible than The Sound and the Fury and As I Lay Dying.

Prior to our beginning this book, my American Literature professor gave us all a nearly half hour lecture on how terribly difficult this book was going to be to read. Although I majored in English, much of the required reading was over my head, partly because it was the late sixties and I was otherwise occupied and/or impaired. Now, a...

2.5 stars Often when I listen to an audiobook, I wonder whether I'd have felt differently about it had I read it. That's the case here, unfortunately. I'm just not sure how much of a difference. This is my first Faulkner, and while there were aspects that I definitely liked about the book, my overal...

This wasn't one of my favourites of his. But the ending is so good...one thing I will say for Willy is he knew how to end a novel. It kind of made me rethink the whole thing. Much like Nathaniel West's stuff, I think this book needs to be read multiple times to really absorb all there is. Though...
