I have no problem with sexually-liberated heroines or premarital sex in a historical romance, or even casual, itch-scratching, no-strings-attached sex (in contemporary settings), but this book made me realize what I've never been able to articulate before: I get squicked out by historical romance no...

Quick thoughts:- favorite part of this book is the characters. this was a very character driven novel and without those strong leads and secondaries, it would have fell flat- some parts were hilarious- chemistry between the leads- reminiscent of the earlier Bridgerton novels- horrendous cover and ba...

Quite wrenching in places, and one of the best first kiss scenes I've read lately. There's really something to be said for the way this book takes the trope of the beautiful social climber and turns it on its head.

Surprised at how much I disliked this. Cynthia was a horribly unpleasant character and all of Miles' mental lusting was tedious. It's too bad, because I really liked the first in this series.

I don't normally like house party stories - where all the action is so contained over a few days, but it worked for me here. I am a sucker for the more-than-meets-the-eye beauty trope, and the warm up between Cynthia and Miles is really fun. Cynthia's wicked drinking game had me giggling like mad ...

Julie Anne Long's writing style is growing on me. The first book by hers that I read was The Perils of Pleasure and it took a while for me to warm up to it. I think it's a book I may enjoy more upon re-read. This time I recognized her style and I got into the story more quickly. Miles is a great...

When Miles Redmond first set eyes on Miss Cynthia Brightly, he was instantly smitten, yet his attraction waned when he overheard her tell a friend that she would never set her sights on a mere second son. Two years later, Miles is the heir to the huge Redmond fortune, thanks to his brother Lyon's di...

Sheer perfection. Just a straight character-driven love story - no villains, murders to solve, lost heirs or heiresses to find or discover, no evil plots to foil, no useless brothers to support - exactly what I want in a romance! The entire story takes place over 2 weeks at a house party at the weal...

It took me a little bit to get into to this one. Long has a very detailed style of writing. I had to pay closer attention to what I was reading. Once I did though the story was captivating. I will be picking up the rest of the books in this series.

Immediately, I disliked Cynthia entirely! I thought, please tell me this is NOT the heroine! And Miles, to feel love at first sight for this witch? Please... BUT by the second chapter I was all in for the two of them, hook, line and sinker. ~sigh~ Julie Ann Long's writing drew me in, made me feel e...
