My research involves the interdisciplinary study of British literature and culture in the nineteenth century. Like other Humanities scholars, research in my case literally means “re-search” – exploring the historical record to recover important works, authors, and issues lost to cultural memory or revisiting well-known moments in literary history to impart a new perspective. This scholarship also impinges on the present either through its relevance to current issues (international studies, gender equality, media) or through reminding contemporary students and scholars that our preoccupations and inventions have precursors.I am the Addie Levy Professor of Literature at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, and my specific interests are in historical media (poetry and print culture, periodicals, serial fiction); gender and women’s studies; and transnationality. I teach courses in Victorian fiction, periodicals, poetry, and radical writings, as well as in modern Arthurian literature and Oscar Wilde.
