AUTHOR, HUMORIST, SPEAKERLinda M. Potter smiles when she says, "My professional resume "reads like a Wikipedia entry for Attention Deficit Disorder. I've had more jobs than hair colors and filled out more aptitude forms than tax returns." Yet her brand of inspired, light-hearted humor is exactly what the doctor ordered for today's times. Stand-up comedy was Ms. Potter's first career choice. Comedy, dry yet quirky, is her natural calling. Practicality won out, though, and Potter pursued a BA degree in Speech and Theatre, and an MA degree in Theatre Arts. She taught in the Theatre Arts Department at Colorado State University, owned a retail store, and did freelance writing on the side. BellaSpark Magazine hired Ms. Potter as the magazine's Managing Editor, interviewing and writing feature articles on leading authors in body, mind, and spirit booksPotter's loyal readers of her regular column, If Only God Would Give Me a Sign! loved the digestible, comedic insights offered in her quirky, yet grounded articles on life's challenges. The bi-product of traditional Midwestern sensibilities and family values, Potter is becoming known to many as the "Erma Bombeck of Metaphysics" with her quick wit and chronicles of the seemingly ordinary yet extraordinary signs on the road of life. Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago during the 1950's and 60's, Potter was one of five children taught to believe in the American dream and the hard work it would take to achieve it. A conscious "rebel with a cause" since childhood, Potter was always much happier tucked away behind the sofa in her family's cramped apartment reading her treasured books and doing homework while her four siblings ran amok. She recalls the seemingly incessant questions from her adorable, but pesky, younger siblings who interrupted any time she would set aside to contemplate the meaning of life. While her parents, brothers, and sisters seemed to revel in the Cheaper by the Dozen, large family life-style, Potter says that she would have preferred to face a firing squad rather than attend happy-family outings in the crowded station wagon where she was exiled to the backward-facing seat that offered a dizzying view of everywhere they'd been. Still in the early stages of obsessively agonizing over her future, Potter was already fairly certain that her life purpose would not involve large numbers of children and/or a small bank account. Surely, she was destined for something greater...at the very least her own private bathtub.Flash forward to the 1970's...finding a career direction and a meaningful life path included a series of hits, misses, and detours. Just a week after receiving her BA degree, Potter received her Mrs. because she feared she might "wander the rest of her days, single and alone." Total first marriage detour/delay time: 21 years. Her first choice, a career as a comedian, was wiped out a few years later when she instead chose to become a college instructor. The next three decades were filled with many signs from God for Potter, including numerous career changes, an early mid-life crises (her own), some skinned knees by her own three children, and lots of humor in between it all. A wife, mother, and now grandmother, she has remained in Fort Collins, Colorado, since graduate school. Potter, a confirmed sign tracker and interpreter for years says: "Those six Yield signs you drive by may be a call to let go, let God. That Help Wanted: Inquire Within notice at the local coffee shop could be guiding you to do a little 'inside' work, and the Speed Limit Ahead sign might be a reminder that we're the ones setting limits in a world of unlimited possibility." Potter's commentary on life (aka her rants at God from a personal, backyard hot tub) is rolled into her first in a series of books, If Only God Would Give Me a Sign! It is the every woman's (and every man's) guide to enlightenment and a fun "how to" on interpreting the signs, from the absolutely absurd to the most mundane. Loyal fans love her digestible, comedic insights offered in her quirky, yet grounded messages on life's meaning and the signs that offer responses to those challenges and questions. She knows from personal and professional experience what people need to hear to relate and laugh from deep inside. You can contact Linda at www.lindampotter.com, linda@lindampotter.com
