This story follows Aren who has stuttered all her life but discovers that she can sing without stuttering. This leads to a discovery of magnitude (to her) and so the story starts. This is a quick read and is ok. For me there's just a tad too much insta-love that is then shrugged off as a spell later ...
Dollycas’s ThoughtsIn this 9th Fresh Baked Mystery the tables are turned a bit as Sam is the one leading the investigation. Sam met Dr. Hank Baxter when he rescued a wonderful dalmatian after it had been hit by a car. The vet takes such good car of the dog, who Sam has named Buck, that when Hank is...
I couldn't help but like this installment of the Texas Golden Girls Minus Sophia, But With Stan. But the motive behind the murder was LAME! I'll be damned if I'm going to jail because I'm trying to impress someone. Not worth it. Carolyn lightened up for a second, but then went back to being cranky...
I just read that people compare the characters in this series to The Golden Girls. Now I can't get that or the damn theme song out of my head. But who is Sofia? I guessed who dunnit at the beginning, but I didn't want to believe it. The author made it sound credible, but the issue for me is that ...
When Phyllis, Sam, Eve and Carolyn hear that celebrity chef Joye Jameson of The Joye of Cooking will be broadcasting live from the Texas Fair they quickly make arrangements to stay with Carolyn’s cousin Peggy’s place and go to the fair. Phyllis even plans to enter the funnel cake competition even th...
Phyllis and Sam! Eve is going to be pissed!I shouldn't be annoyed at the fact that Phyllis is nosy and even a tad bit of a bully when she's trying to figure out what's going on. I figured out who was involved int he murder from the beginning, so it made reading about the investigation feel like ever...
I was surprised when I found out who the murderer was at the end. It kind of left me sad at the end of the book. Overall, the book was a quick read. The characters were nice and I found myself wanting to get back to reading sooner rather than later. It's like The Golden Girls meets Cozy Mysteries.
This is the first time I have a book by this author. It is a fast, easy read about a house of senior citizens, and two of the occupants work together to solve murders in Weatherford in Parker County, TX. None of the characters do anything real exciting. They solve crimes while doing everyday thin...
I will never read another book by this author again. The writing is terrible, the mysteries are bad, the recipes are disgusting, the plot is trite, the characters are far too self righteous.... I could go on, but don't feel like wasting the time....
