Furnace Penitentiary: the world’s most secure prison for young offenders, buried a mile beneath the earth’s surface. Convicted of a murder he didn’t commit, sentenced to life without parole, “new fish” Alex Sawyer knows he has two choices: find a way out, or resign himself to a death behind bars, in the darkness at the bottom of the world. Except in Furnace, death is the least of his worries. Soon Alex discovers that the prison is a place of pure evil, where inhuman creatures in gas masks stalk the corridors at night, where giants in black suits drag screaming inmates into the shadows, where deformed beasts can be heard howling from the blood-drenched tunnels below. And behind everything is the mysterious, all-powerful warden, a man as cruel and dangerous as the devil himself, whose unthinkable acts have consequences that stretch far beyond the walls of the prison. Together with a bunch of inmates—some innocent kids who have been framed, others cold-blooded killers—Alex plans an escape. But as he starts to uncover the truth about Furnace’s deeper, darker purpose, Alex’s actions grow ever more dangerous, and he must risk everything to expose this nightmare that’s hidden from the eyes of the world.

Lockdown by Alexander Gordon Smith My rating: 3 of 5 stars Alex Sawyer finds himself in Furnace Penitentiary; a pit in the ground, its sole purpose to cage away the youngest of offenders. The thing is, Alex may be a thief, and he may have broken the law, but he certainly doesn't belong in Hell. Faci...
The cover and the first paragraph called to me on this one and I was very excited to get busy on reading it. So Lockdown is all based around a penitentiary for those that break the law the thing of it is, is that this penitentiary is underground I mean there is nothing but rock surrounding people. ...
Fast paced and bloody brilliant.“Don't go looking for snakes, you might find them..Don't send your eyes to the sun, you might blind them,Haven't I seen you here before? There ain't no heroes here....”This is a shit-meet-fan kind of book. There are no sugary bits glossing over events because of the ma...
I love that I bought this book for a cheap price yet it was a good read!
Not nearly as thrilling towards the end, as it is when our friends gets locked up in Furnace. Would maybe read more in the future, but I'm in no hurry... Only reason would be to see how the cliff hanger at the end of this book is carried into the second book.. I assume there's more prison breaking.
