Lord John is a super sleuth always on the job figuring out a mystery. Nice reads for those who liked him in the Outlander series.3.5 stars

This is really a collection of three short stories set in this world. I really liked the author's warning at the start: this is not a book about Jaime and Claire. It just amused me for some reason. The orignal plan for my reading of this book was to read the first story, Lord John and the Hellfi...

Lord John and the Hand of the Devils is one short story and two novellas. My biggest question after reading this: why not publish all the Lord John stories in order? Lord John and the Hand of Devils is a collection of three short stories featuring Lord John. I did enjoy how they each had a supernatural mystery to them that was less supernatural then it seemed. Lord John and the Hellfire Club is more of a slice of life story than a true mystery, it's quite short ...

2nd read: Feb 2012 - 3.5+ starsOn the second read, I had the chronological order of the three short stories in this book, which I found helped my enjoyment and understanding of these stories. I actually *got* what happened, especially in the last story, "The Haunted Soldier"... I just needed the con...

3.5 starsThis was better, because it was short stories, without a lot of connection between them - apart from Lord John.

I do like Lord John, and I think he works well in novella format. Each of these tales has at least some nominal paranormal frame of reference. I'm not sure I would call them mysteries, however. The second story is my favorite. It was well developed, and Diana's wit and humor is allowed to shine. The...

Narrator is great. This is 3 short stories. I liked the 1st and 3rd the best. I had thought the 3rd sounded/read familiar but it's end was a surprise.
