Lorna Murphy is an AWARD WINNING author/illustrator of children's books based in Suffolk, UK. She is originally from the Kent coast but has been landlocked for 20 years. She still misses the sea. After working in the public sector for several years, she went back to college to study art, more specifically illustration. It was at Cambridge School of Art she discovered the world of illustrated books and has been hooked ever since. Since graduating with an MA in Children's Book Illustration, she has continued to work as a freelance illustrator for corporate clients such as MacMillan and Burrough Wellcome, as well as indies, and creating her own picture books, staging exhibitions, workshops and working part-time with high school children as a librarian which she loves. Her picture book 'MAISIE'S MOUNTAIN' recently won Silver Award for Best Picture Book in the Wishing Shelf Independent Book Awards 2014 and her book 'THE SPRINGBOARD BOOK' is a popular tool in primary schools for creative-writing sessions. She feels very privileged to be living in a world of books and children who love them. There are many books and author/illustrators that inspire her, in particular, innovators such as Shaun Tan, David Weisner and Brian Selznick who have shown us new ways of using illustration to tell stories. She is also proud to have recently worked with her brother, the science writer Glenn Murphy, on their first collaboration: "POO! WHAT IS THAT SMELL?" a fun non-fiction book for children about the five senses released in August 2013.

Well researched, and beautifully told, I really enjoyed reading this. It's much slower than I am used to, but it was paced perfectly for the story being told...
