On the one hand, I'm not sure what this setup is supposed to be. Other than for a human-on-human teenage romance, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be more realistic or set more in a sci-fi universe - and I liked the short prequel enough to read the more than half of this book - percentage wise...
For a prequel short story, it really doesn't tell you too much. The reader doesn't learn anything more than what they've already read in Eve & Adam. It's a cute introductory story of some of the characters, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to read nor recommend for anyone else to do so....
