Oddly one of my favorite books as a kid...Probably because I made my mom read it out-loud (every night!) much to her utter dismay! XD

This is a chapter book made to look like a poetry journal of Jack a student in Mrs. Stretchberry's classroom. At first he doesn't like writing poetry for class. However, with encouragement he opens up more to poetry. As he opens up more to poetry he also opens up more about his pet dog that he used ...

A short, sweet book about a boy and his dog. I love the poems Creech chose to include in the book as Jack's inspiration.

Jack, like many boys or kids his age, has the wrong perception of poetry. Kids get handed out poems to read and then assigned to write their own poems. He thinks he doesn't like it probably because he associates poetry those negative experiences. When kids read this book, they will realize that they...

This was a cute, short book. It's written in verse, but since my library only had the audio of the book, I didn't have the text to follow along with to get the full feel of the lines and poetic form of the book. Despite that, and with the help of the narrator, I'm confident that I'd have enjoyed rea...

Had to read this one for class - very interesting thoughts on the meaning of poetry and how kids can relate to it. Plus - lots of Walter Dean Myers! Who doesn't love WDM? A cute book - easily understood by grades 6 and under.

When I was in 5th grade, my teacher read this aloud to my class. Unfortunately I can't remember enough to actually write a review. So once I re-read it, I will write a review. Review to come!

Oh, this was SUCH a good book. Short and very sweet. I can picture Jack and his teacher and his classroom, and his yellow dog, and it is so amazing that Creech made me see and feel so much with in such a deceptively simple way. "Simple" because it is short, but "deceptive" because there is so much d...

I noticed that my son Michael was crying as he was reading a book. I immediately was worried. But, as I looked at the cover I saw it was by Sharon Creech, an author who will make you both laugh and cry ... even in the same chapter! Love That Dog is a sweet story told through poems about a boy na...

Clever novel written in verse. Tells an engaging story of a young boy who doesn't like poetry. He doesn't understand the genre and thinks it's only for girls. His teacher opens his eyes to the world of poetry and figurative language. He learns to love it and becomes a poet himself without even reali...
