Lutricia "Lu" Clifton was born in Oklahoma but moved frequently when growing up. She spent her early school years in the Texas Panhandle, then married and raised two sons in Colorado, where she earned a B.A. and an M.A. in English from Colorado State University. She has been editor of a networking magazine for women, taught communications courses at two colleges, and is a Master Gardener. She now lives in northern Illinois, the setting for this, her first published book, which received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews, denoting a book of remarkable merit.
