This isn't really a review. It's a comment about the narrator, Lydia Look. There are certain things about her narration that I enjoy, but one thing that drives me crazy is that she pronounces "ear" "year"--and in this audio narration, there were multiple references to YEARRINGS. YEARRINGS?!?!?!? ...

A challenging, amazing, unique book. If you want to try reading it, don’t get quickly discouraged; just put down the book and come back to it later. For me, the third section, “Swann in Love,” was the most accessible, so if you’re stuck on the first two sections, you could just skip ahead and read t...

I struggled with how to rate this book. On the one hand, this collection of 43 short stories is brilliant. The writing is clear, vivid, engaging and insightful. The author clearly has a deep understanding of people and how they work, and has been around the block a few times. The settings – mostly t...

I read Proust's masterpiece back in 1985. What did I know of life then? Nothing! Having recently read a Smithsonian editorial that made fun of the novels, and remembering all too well one particular hilariously snippy Monty Python sketch (the Summarize Proust Competition), I too wanted to be able ...

I fully appreciated this version of the novel for two reasons: I had read the Graphic Novel of the book (comic book) by Stephane Heuet, and I absolutely always love a George Guidall narration. I haven't listened to the other versions of this volume by other narrators, there's no need to since nobody...

"Ogni foca usa svariati buchi nel ghiaccio e ogni buco nel ghiaccio è usato da svariate foche". Dopo questa importantissima informazione che giunge dai ghiacci del Nord, il resto può attendere.

Very challenging. Blanchot has someone say of a dying woman that her pulse "scattered like sand" and so that seems to happen with the words and impressions of this short and strange novel. It may take more than a second reading to begin to feel my way through this one.
