The first two-thirds of it are much funnier than the last third. Everything gets wrapped up incredibly neatly, which I suppose is the whole point, but it means there isn't a breath of air in the last pages, and you almost yearn for something to upset Flora's plans at the last minute. That said it's ...

This isn't usually the kind of book I would read -- it's sort of a humorous murder mystery, I guess? But it had a talking cat, and that was really all I cared about going it.And the best part about this book is the cats. The humor fell flat for me -- it just wasn't my style, and I have trouble laugh...
even with nougat, you can have a perfect moment
Yeah, I'll maybe reattempt this someday in a different mindset, but I strongly disliked the "voice" of the author - the humour was overly knowing and a bit smug.

Have you ever read one of those novels full of doom and gloom, peopled with characters trapped by their own twisted, thwarted passions, and thought that with some energy and common sense their problems could be easily resolved? That is what Cold Comfort Farm is supposed to be about – taking a farmfu...

Lynne Truss is fabulous. This book, however, is not. Basically, it lacks direction. A collection of essays on the six things society has embraced which will make you want to remain at home with the door barred, it takes its brief a little too intelligently, including quotes from anthropoligical te...

I first discovered Lynne Truss and her writing when visiting England. I was poking around in a bookshop run by a woman who had quite possibly the most sour disposition I've ever encountered in anyone surrounded by books. Maybe she loved all the books so much she didn't want anyone to take them awa...

Cat out of Hell is so far the most problematic book that I have had to review so far. I thought it would be a sweet story about a talking cat, instead it was a grim story about a talking cat, well it tried to be grim, but it was mostly confusing and silly with a lot of plot holes. The only part of t...

I confess: I frequently find myself self-conscious about my use of punctuation. A few years back, I even bought a copy of Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style, but have yet to read more than a chapter or two at a time before discovering something else to do, even if it’s bathing the dog. Simila...

This was funny and made me look at my cat Alyce a little differently. Roger was ace, a talking cat that wants to tell his story about his life and the cruelty the cat master did to the kittens, and how the cat master uses the few cats that survive 9 deaths. The story centers round Captain and Rodger...
