After reading a book so far ahead in the Hamish McBeth series and loving it, I decided to see what the author's books were really all about and find a series starter. I found a deal for this Agatha Raisin starter and decided to give it a try. Right from the get-go, it grabbed me. I love the spunk of...
I don't normally start a series at the eighteenth book but I wanted something linked to Christmas and there it was. It turned out that being in the middle of everything was not a problem, it may even have skipped all that "who is Agatha Raisin and how did she get here?" stuff that can make the start...
I was not particularly impressed with this "cosy crime" novel which turns around three murders but also involves blackmail, betrayal and conspiracy. Agatha Raisin is not a bundle of fun, agonising about her love life while trying to solve crime. It's OK as a crime story but not really my cup of tea....
Series: Hamish Macbeth #10 As usual, Hamish Macbeth gets pulled into a murder mystery, except he's the only who thinks a death occurred, and the only other death (which of course he finds suspicious) gets written off as an accident by everyone except Hamish. This book also showcases some reprehens...
Series: Hamish Macbeth #9 Hamish really does mess about with procedure and evidence. He relies on tricking the culprit into a confession too. Otherwise it was alright.
Series: Hamish Macbeth #8 I think the original title for this book, "Death of a Glutton", was better. Cat lovers may want to steer clear of this one, and I have to agree with the character that said that Macbeth's way of getting a confession was amateurish.
Series: Hamish Macbeth #6 This was a straightforward little mystery wherein Hamish Macbeth acts like a pansy because he thinks he's dying of influenza when he catches a cold and later indulges in some slut shaming because calmly refusing a woman who makes a pass at him isn't acceptable; he has to ...
Series: Hamish Macbeth #5 Yes, I'm still plugging my way through these books. This one tried to have a bit of progression by having Hamish move to the city and have the villagers start a crime spree to get him back (it works, naturally). This one felt really judgemental about women again (appearan...
Series: Hamish Macbeth #4 I have to say that I'm really getting tired of this Priscilla thing. I really hope Hamish is over her. This one had some really weird judgemental stuff about Glaswegian prostitutes. It was awkward to read. It wasn't a big part of the story or anything but it was just we...
