Madoc Roberts has worked in television for thirty years. He mainly works as an editor but also has his own company Barkingmad TV through which he also Produces and Directs. During his career he has made programmes for many of the world's leading broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, C4, S4C, Discovery and the History Channel.Programmes he has worked on include Private Life of a Masterpiece, Timewatch, Time Team and he has made feature films such as Flick starring Faye Dunaway, Liz Smith, Michele Ryan and Mark Benton. It was when a programme idea got too big for television that Madoc decided it was time to write a book. Six years of research into the life of Arthur Owens led to his first book. Snow: the double life of a world war II spy was co-written with espionage expert Nigel West and published by Biteback of London. It tells the true story of an ordinary man who becomes entangled in the mirky world of international espionage at the start of WWII. Arthur Owens was Mi5's most important agent during these years but the German's thought that he was there master spy in Britain. This allowed Mi5 to develop theirdouble cross system which went on to control every single German spy in Britain. The book is based on thousands of secret Mi5 files and the testimony of Arthur Owens family because during the research for the book Madoc traced the spy's family. After the war agent Snow was worried that someone he had double crossed might catch up with him so using all the skills he had developed as a spy he changed his identity and vanished. However after much difficulty Madoc Roberts traced two halves of Snow's family on opposite sides of the Atlantic. So far he has traced a son living in Ireland who wants to tell his father story; a daughter of Snow's mysterious mistress Lily and a daughter in law. However most surprising was the fact that Snow's eldest daughter Patricia Owens had gone on to become a Hollywood film star who appeared in over thirty films, starring alongside the likes of Marlon Brando, Vincent Price and James Mason. In the late seventies Madoc was a member of the punk band the Tunnelrunners, he has five children, five grandchildren and now lives in Cardiff with the artist Susan Roberts.
