Mahtab, in Persian, means Moonlight. She was born in Bombay and immigrated to Canada in 1997. Her debut novel in the Tara Trilogy, The Third Eye (Dundurn, 2007), won the Silver Birch Fiction Award in 2009.The Tiffin (DCB, 2011), a middle-grade novel based loosely on the dabbawallas, has received critical acclaim, was shortlisted for many awards, and named one of the five best books for Young People in 2011 by the Quill & Quire. It has been published in the UK, China and Taiwan. It was also nominated for the MYRCA, SYRCA and Red Maple Awards. Mahtab’s most recent novel, Mission Mumbai, is published by Scholastic US and Canada, Spring 2016.She also published her first picture book with Lantana Publishing (UK), which champions cultural diversity in children’s literature, in Spring 2016.
