I've been teaching creative writing and writing novels myself for twenty years or more, and I love every moment I spend in my world of make-believe! I'm one of those people who can't help making up stories. But I've also had time to have some fun in the real world. I have two beautiful, talented children, Clara who lives in Minnesota, and Marianne who lives in Aberdeen, which is in Scotland. I have a gorgeous little blond grandson, too.I studied Anglo-Saxon Archaeology at university, and what I learned there formed the basis of my novel Elegy for a Queen, available on Kindle in the USA. I still like digging and getting my hands dirty! I'm a history addict and am fascinated by the twentieth century, surely the most astonishing time human beings have lived through yet? I've written several novels set in the first half of the twentieth century. The three most recent are The Silver Locket, The Golden Chain and The Penny Bangle, which are all on Kindle. My contemporary novel, The Wedding Diary, is a bit of a departure for me - it's a romantic comedy. It was published in May 2013. My new title, Magic Sometimes Happens, is also a romantic comedy. I'm the author with Cathie Hartigan of The Creative Writing Student's Handbook, your one-stop guide to everything to do with storytelling. I love ebooks and print books. I'm sure ebooks are going to be the future for us all. But I don't yet have a crystal ball...

The story switches to Alex getting ready to attend Lady Courtenay’s evening party and w...

My thoughts:This is a stand alone novel, but it also is a continuation of The Silver Locket, in that book Rose and Alex fell in love and later adopted a child, Daisy. Fast forward and she is 15, going on 16, and she falls in love for the first time. You can read it without having read the other one;...

My thoughts:I was not sure about Alex, I mean he got the girl pregnant, and married her, very good, and proper considering, but then he wants to flee his marriage because all along he was in love with Rose. So I felt kind of, you made your bed, now just lay in it! But still he really loved Rose, oh ...

I picked up this book because I thought it had a very pretty cover and the story sounded interesting.'never judge a book by its cover' is certainly applicable here - unfortunately the cover was about the best thing about it. Set during World War 1 a romantic Mills and Boom type Novel with dull chara...
