by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Daniel Weyman
What a fantastic audiobook, the narration was wonderful. The story was gothic suspense horror, not too scary, just right. I look forward to reading more form this author.
Masterful homage to Frankenstein and all things gothic. Is there anyone who writes gothic stories better than Zafon? I don’t think so. As atmospheric and beautiful as Shadow of the Wind (which is saying a lot) but in a novella. One of my top 10 of the year. 5 stars. Top 10 for the year.

Few things feel as bad as holding a book in your hands that you've so badly wanted to read, and yet you feel that your hopes are diminishing as you progressed, replaced by sheer sadness as the inner voice in your head screams for the plot to change. This book made that inner voice scream, and not in...
The story captured my attention right at the outset. Fifteen-year-old Oscar Drai disappears from his boarding school for seven days and nights and then suddenly reappears at the Barcelona train station. What follows is his story of the events that led up to this disappearance. Oscar stumbles upo...

During seven days and seven nights no one knows where he is… Marina is the fourth book I have read by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (not counting The Rose of Fire since it’s a short story) and I think it’s probably the best I have ...
Fifteen year-old Oscar attends a boarding school in Barcelona in 1980. Intrigued by architecture and a sense of adventure, he likes to go explore the abandoned mansions that line the streets near his school. Lured in by a ghostly opera melody, Oscar finds himself in a very much inhabited mansion a...
There’s nothing quite like ending a book on a high. You know the feeling. When you turn the last page, close the cover and your emotions run riot; you wish you’d not finished, wish there was more but know it ended as it should. That’s what happens on finishing Marina. It’s a beautiful book, set Ba...
For a YA novel this is far darker and disturbing than any of his adult fiction. Would have been five stars but at times the continuous short sentences irritated me, taking me out of the narrative. Not sure if this is something that occurred in translation, but it definitely didn't have the amazing f...
