Marina Levina is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication at the University of Memphis. She has received a PhD in Communication from the Institute of Communication Research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on critical cultural studies of science, technology and medicine, visual culture, and media studies. She has published work on health information technology, personal genomics, networks and globalization, and visual culture's engagement with scientific and medical research. She is an avid fan of monster and horror narratives and has written on critical meaning of monsters, and especially their connection to scientific and medical cultural anxieties. She has also repeatedly taught a course on monster films. Currently, she is working on a book manuscript titled Pandemics in the Media (under contract with Peter Lang Press) and an edited collection Monstrous Culture in the 21st Century (first editor with Diem-my Bui).
