A little Ukrainian girl's envisagement of authoring literature loomed into reality when in America she decided to collect her short essays and poems. Some of Marina Sergeyeva's work appeared in a local newspaper when she was still in middle grade, but her break came when she entered and placed in a Canadian anthology with her scholarship essay. Marina's degrees are in biochemistry and mathematics, yet she's only a teen. After publishing her collection, Upstairs, with a new small press, she was contracted with them as also an artist and a copyeditor. Marina wrote and illustrated her second book, Nikki & Nick are great friends to pick!--this time for children--in which the poems are in a Shel Silverstein style with fun facts and colorful illustrations. Her first work displays a traditional style of poetry and prose, like that of Frost and Keates, however, experiments with new forms, such as what Escher did with art. Sergeyeva created new poetic styles, which she calls directional, reflective, and others.Besides writing, she's a tutor of math and science. She danced in the Moscow Ballet's Nutcracker for three years and was a dance major in a magnet high school. She is a member of the American Chemical Society. Like Sir Isaac Newton so beautifully put, she, too, feels like a kid playing with interesting pebbles on the shore of a vast, undiscovered ocean of knowledge before her.
